Waterfowling is one of the major components of this guide service. The area in which we hunt ducks and geese spans from the northern portion of Lake Champlain in Vermont southward to the tip of the Massachusetts coastline. This operation is headed by Captains Reilly McCue. Vermont hunts are based out of the lodge on Spikehorn Ridge while Massachusetts hunts usually begin at the saltmarsh in Ipswich.
The types of areas that we hunt include a wide variety of rivers, ponds, lakes, swamps and marshes as well as agricultural fields. Hunting over decoys (Spikehorn Ridge boasts a large supply of goose stuffers) on land and water is our mainstay but jumpshooting and sneak floating are a few other techniques that we will occasionally employ.
The seasons that we hunt waterfowl run from early October to late December in Vermont and from early October to the middle of February in Massachusetts. The species that we see throughout all of these seasons on our hunting grounds include: Canada geese, snow geese, brant, blue and green-winged teal, ruddy ducks, american widgeon, shovelers, gadwalls, pintails, mallards, blacks, wood ducks, ring-necked ducks, all three mergansers, common goldeneyes, bluebills, buffleheads, all three scoters, common eiders, and old squaws. The bottom line is that we love calling and decoying in ducks and geese and watch you guys and gals blast em! So if you want to try something new give us a call!
